The Congress
The Romanesque church, a space for images. The proposal aims to gather together the views of the researchers who in recent years have studied the decoration of the Early Medieval religious building from a global perspective, that is, as an entity wich accomodates a variety of works -from decoration to furniture- which converges in the mise-en-scène of the liturgical rite.
Ars Picta is a consolidated research group at the Universitat de Barcelona directed by Dr. Milagros Guardia.
This 2nd Congress has a special character, as it is part of the celebration of the centenary of the "discovery" of Romanesque painting in Catalonia. An important part of the art works then discovered are now preserved in the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya . The Romanesque Area of the MNAC participates actively in the Research Group. This Congress will also coincide with the meeting of the Indexation des Images Médiévales group, directed by Dr. M. Angheben from the CÉSCM at Poitiers. This group has met annually since 2004. Ars Picta has been a member of this group since its creation and has worked on the development of its database on Romanesque painting in Catalonia.
